Consistency Pays Off

Coach Joe at Forerunners Track Club.Joe Burgasser, 63, loves running but after 30 years of consistently winning his age-group, he thought he might have to give it up. Plagued by Achilles injuries he decided to keep training even if he wasn't one of the fastest guys in his division. Turns out that's pretty fast. Last April running in his 21st Boston Marathon, Joe ran 2:56 to win his 60-to-69 age-group by more than 11 minutes! "My Injury got better, and running is fun again," says Joe. "I guess I'm still fast too."

Joe coaches the Forerunners Track Club in St Petersburg, Florida, which he founded in 1982. He rounds out his weekly running with swimming and weight training. His advice to others over 50 is to "do something for your body every day, either cardio or strength, eat and drink prudently."
